General Questions about Competitive Soccer

What is the difference between Recreational soccer and Competitive soccer?

Recreational soccer is focused on just having fun.  Volunteer coaches, limited commitment, and like competition create the best environment for enjoying the game.  The Competitive program is the highest level of soccer offered at SLSC.  Tryouts are held annually for placement.   Coaches are required to have the correct credentials in order to be placed in charge of a team.  Players that have proven to have ability and a strong interest in the game should consider playing Competitive soccer.

When should I register?

Attend tryouts when those are held.  Typically the months of May or June are utilized.  Attendance in the annual tryouts will be beneficial for all players.  If you cannot attend for any reason, contact the coach for your age group.  Players can also register at any time during the competitive year.  Contact the coach for your age group and they will set up a supplemental tryout.

Can I play Recreational Soccer and Competitive Soccer?

No.  Competitive players are not allowed to play Recreational soccer.

Is the commitment more than Recreational Soccer?  How often do we practice?

Competitive teams typically train twice a week for 1.5 hours.  This should be comparable to Recreational soccer.  The main difference would be the environment created for these sessions.  An experienced coach that has the background and credentials for coaching is crucial.  Players of similar ability challenges the players and creates the best learning environment.  Training at the same facility as the other Academy and Competitive teams also foster the best overall environment.  Players can see the next level on the field next to them.

Is Competitive soccer expensive to participate in?

In comparison to other activities available to the youth, it is similar.  The cost is illustrated on our site under the program info.  For more specific questions you can contact your coach or the coach in your age group.
